Version 1.1.0 macOS & Windows

Find anyone in your photos and videos — 100% offline

Drop in one reference photo, point SnapByFace at your media folders, and it finds where that person appears. All of it happens on your own computer — no cloud API, no account, and your media never leaves your machine.

Who uses SnapByFace

Built for professionals who can't afford to miss a face

Wedding Photographers

Parents & Families

How it works

Three steps, no configuration

No model downloads, no cloud account, no upload queue — everything happens on disk.

1

Add ID photos

Drop one clear reference photo per person and name the file after them — the file name becomes their name. Sub-folders are fine; SnapByFace scans them recursively.

~/Photos/Reference/John_Smith.jpg → ready to search
2

Scan your library

Point to your media folders. SnapByFace reads JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, WebP and HEIC images plus MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, WebM and TS video, and samples video about once per second to extract face embeddings.

Scanning your folders • faces indexed as they are found
3

Export results

Results ranked by similarity score (0.00–1.00). One-click export copies matching media to any folder — for client delivery, case files, or albums. Originals stay untouched.

Capabilities

Built for real-world media libraries

Wedding photographers with 5,000+ shots per event. Parents with years of unsorted phone backups. Video editors combing hours of footage. SnapByFace handles the scale you actually work with.

15+
formats

15+ formats, zero preprocessing

JPEG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, WebP and HEIC photos, plus MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, WebM and TS video — no converting, renaming, or organizing required. Point SnapByFace at the folders you already have.

1s
sampling interval, adjustable

Video search on an interval you set

SnapByFace pulls one frame every second by default (adjustable from 0.1 to 30 seconds) and reports the moment it found the person. A tighter interval pins the moment more precisely; a looser one gets through hours of footage faster. Click a hit to jump straight to that moment — not to the start of a 2-hour file.

0%
redundant work

Incremental scanning

Add 2,000 new photos? Only those 2,000 are processed. A library that grows continuously never rebuilds from scratch. Previous scans are preserved.

Exact
match, no approximation

Exact matching, not approximate

Every face in your library is compared against the one you are looking for — no approximate index, no sampling, so a growing library never means silently missing someone. The trade-off is stated plainly: the larger the library, the longer a single search takes.

73%
resume point

Pausable multi-hour scans

Processing 50GB of 4K footage? Pause at 73%, close the app, resume tomorrow. Progress persists across sessions. Cancel anytime without data loss.

Batch
export

One-click export pipeline

Select matches, set a threshold (e.g., ≥0.85), export. SnapByFace copies files to your target folder with original timestamps and metadata intact. Perfect for client deliveries.

Privacy

Why your data never leaves the computer

SnapByFace is a local program, not a web service. There is no server that could see your media even if it wanted to.

Recognition and search: 100% local

  • The face models ship inside the installer — once it is installed, no network is needed.
  • Everything SnapByFace learns about your media stays on your computer, in one folder of your user directory: ~/.snapbyface/.
  • No account, no login, nothing synced anywhere, and no server in the picture.
  • Your media files are only ever read, never modified.

The one thing that does leave: device statistics

On launch, SnapByFace can send a small ping so we can count installations and support your license. It contains only: machine code, app version, operating system, language, activation state and plan.

It contains no photos, videos, face data, file paths, library sizes or search activity. It is on by default, times out after 3 seconds, never retries, and you can switch it off in Settings at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really offline?
Recognition and search are. Finding the faces, comparing them and ranking the hits all happen on your machine, and no image, video or face data is uploaded. The only outbound request is an optional device statistics ping (machine code, app version, OS, language, activation state) used to count installations — it carries no media data, and you can switch it off in Settings.
Do I need an internet connection to use it?
No. Once installed, SnapByFace works with the network unplugged. The face models ship inside the installer, so there is nothing to download at runtime.
How many computers does one license cover?
One. A license code is signed for the machine code of one computer. If you replace the motherboard, the main drive, or reinstall the OS on different hardware, contact us and we will re-issue the code for the new machine.
What happens when I buy?
You get a license code by email, usually within a minute. Paste it into the Software Activation dialog — verification happens on your computer, and the matches already found are unlocked without re-running the search.
Can I get an invoice?
Yes. Waffo Pancake is the merchant of record, so they issue the invoice and handle VAT and sales tax for your country. Prices on this site are in USD; tax is calculated at checkout.

Start with one photo and see what turns up

Download SnapByFace, add one reference photo, and search a folder you already have. The trial shows a limited number of matches; everything runs offline from the first launch.
