The problem

Why folder search cannot solve this

When you need every photo of a specific person — a client, a family member, a subject — browsing folders and scanning thumbnails is hours of wasted work. File names rarely help; tags require manual effort you never finish.

Face-based search solves this differently. You show SnapByFace one clear photo of the person, and it compares that face against every face in your library. The result is a complete set of photos where that person appears, ranked by how closely each face matches.

How to search photos by face

From reference photo to complete results

1

Add one reference photo

Drop a clear photo of the person into the People folder and name the file after them — the name becomes their label in results.

2

Build the local face index

Point SnapByFace at your photo folders. It reads each image, detects faces, and stores 512-dimension embeddings locally. Incremental scanning means new photos only process new files.

3

Search and review results

Select the person, and results come back ranked by similarity score. Adjust the threshold (0.30–0.80) to tighten or loosen matches, then export what you need.

What you get

A complete set, not a guess

Every photo, not just some

Each face in your library is compared against the reference — no approximate index that might silently skip someone. The trade-off: larger libraries take longer to search.

Similarity scores you can trust

Results are ranked by cosine similarity between face embeddings. You see the score for each match and decide where to draw the line.

Tens of thousands of photos

SnapByFace is built for whole archives. Incremental scanning and pausable indexing keep large libraries manageable.

Nothing leaves your computer

The index, embeddings and search results all stay on your own disk. No upload, no cloud, no account required.

Search photos by face: frequently asked questions

How do I find all photos of one person?
Add one clear reference photo of that person to SnapByFace, then point it at your photo folders. The app compares that face against every face in your library and returns all matches ranked by similarity.
Do I need to tag my photos first?
No. Face-based search does not use tags, albums or filenames. You provide one reference photo, and the app finds matches by comparing faces directly.
How accurate is face-based photo search?
SnapByFace uses neural face embeddings compared by cosine similarity — the same core technique as cloud services. You control the trade-off with an adjustable threshold (0.30–0.80).
Can it handle large photo libraries?
Yes. SnapByFace is designed for libraries of tens of thousands of images. Indexing is incremental, and long scans can be paused and resumed.
