Version 1.1.0
Download SnapByFace
About 300 MB, because everything SnapByFace needs for search travels inside the installer. Face detection, embeddings and matching all run on your own CPU — the only outbound request is an optional statistics ping you can switch off in Settings.

What the trial includes
Free to try: the full search runs on your own folders, on your own machine. Two caps apply until you activate — you can see up to 5 matches per person and 20 per search, and start up to 100 runs in total (browsing and exporting do not count). Activating unlocks what has already been found; nothing has to run again.
Before you install
Install notes for macOS and Windows
Both platforms may warn you about an app that is not signed by a large vendor. Here is what to expect.
SnapByFace is made by one person, not a company. Apple's notarization and Microsoft's publisher verification both require expensive developer certificates I have not gotten yet — that is why your system flags the download. The app is safe: check the SHA-256 checksum on each card above against the published value, and you can confirm every byte matches what I released.
macOS 12 or later
Open the .dmg and drag SnapByFace to Applications. If macOS refuses to open it, run this in Terminal:
xattr -cr /Applications/SnapByFace.app Windows 10 or later
Run the installer and accept the default location. If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info and then Run anyway.
SnapByFace needs about 300 MB of disk space and keeps everything it knows about your media in %USERPROFILE%\.snapbyface.
After installing
First launch
The wizard asks who you are looking for and which folders to look in, then gets to work.
- 1. Add one clear frontal photo of the person (an ID photo works best) and give them a name.
- 2. Add one folder to search — a few hundred files is plenty for a first try.
- 3. Look through what it finds. Too much, or too little? Widen or tighten the match.
