Face Search for Video Editors

Two hours of raw footage, one subject, zero patience for scrubbing. SnapByFace samples frames, finds the person, and hands you the time ranges where they appear — on your own machine.

The problem

Finding the right scenes without scrubbing for hours

Locating every scene with a specific actor, interviewee or subject is tedious: scrub the timeline, squint, remember where you stopped. And the cloud alternative means uploading unreleased footage to someone else's server — usually a non-starter for client work.

SnapByFace runs locally. Give it one reference still of the person, point it at your footage folders, and it returns merged time ranges — "02:14–02:34" — instead of hundreds of raw frame hits. Click a range to jump straight to that moment, then pull what you need into your edit.

Workflow

How editors use it

1

Add a reference still

One clear frame or photo of the subject. The same people library works across photos and video, so stills and rushes live in one index.

2

Scan the footage folders

MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, WebM and TS are sampled at an interval you set — default about one frame per second, adjustable from 0.1 to 30 seconds.

3

Jump, verify, export

Hits come as time ranges sorted by similarity. Jump to each moment, review, and export the matched clips with their original timestamps.

Why it fits the edit bay

What you get

Precise moments, fewer clicks

Merged time ranges mean a subject who stays in shot is one result. A tighter sampling interval pins the moment more precisely when you need frame-level timing.

Unreleased footage stays local

Rushes, interviews and client material are exactly the files that should not be uploaded. Sampling and matching happen on your own disk.

Pausable multi-hour scans

Processing hours of 4K takes time. Pause at any percentage, close the app, and resume tomorrow — progress persists across sessions.

One index for stills and video

Find the same person across camera stills, BTS photos and video in one search — useful for press kits and recap edits.

Video editor FAQ

How precise are the timestamps?
Results are merged time ranges whose precision follows your sampling interval — down to 0.1 seconds if you need frame-level timing, or up to 30 seconds for a fast first pass.
Which codecs and containers are supported?
MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, WebM and TS files. Multiple drives and folders can be scanned in one pass.
Does footage get uploaded for processing?
No. Frames are sampled and matched locally. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no cloud processing step at all.
Can I search across both photos and video?
Yes — photos and sampled video frames go into the same index, so one reference photo finds the person across both at once.
